The One Where We Moved To New York

The One Where We Moved To New York

We grew up with the goal in mind to move to New York in our twenties, living the coveted lives of Rachel Green and Monica Geller. Two best friends, practically sisters, the only difference we saw for our lives was bridging the gap between “practically” and “sisters.” It was only when we saw the glaring similarities between Chandler and Joey (and sometimes Ross) reflected in our daily activities, that we realized we might be more similar to the two best friends, practically brothers.
Below you will find a list of real life occurrences that have led us to believe, beyond all shadow of a doubt, that our lives ironically mirror Joseph Francis Tribbiani and Chandler Muriel Bing:
  • Ordering the “Joey special” (TWO pizzas) every Saturday
  • Drilling holes through each other’s walls
  • Our fridge breaking and having to eat everything
  • The wifi quitting on us and subsequently pausing the new Bay Watch movie just as the girls began their daily morning jog down the beach
  • A hot girl guy moving in across the street, only for us to count multiple times and mess up multiple times what apartment he actually lives in
  • We had to go together as moral support to successfully quit the gym
  • We legitimately have a “Mornings Here” neighbor exactly 4 feet from our kitchen window
Even after all of the above, we haven’t ever stopped believing that Rachel and Monica will forever be our New York City roommate muses. Because even though the ghosts of Joey and Chandler’s pasts have made multiple appearances in our daily, we can’t ignore the inspiration and similarities we have found through the iconic gal pal duo of Rachel and Monica. The below could not BE anymore relatable.

They’re always honest with each other

“… Those shoes don’t go with those pants. Also, take your hair down. Better.”

They’re always on the same page

“… Sooo tequila?”

They’re willing to share gifts

“… Do you want these jeans? I don’t like them anymore.”

They’re always there to reassure each other when times get tough

“… Don’t worry, you’ll find a boy to love you. It’s New York, it’s not you.”

They’ve got each other’s backs 24/7

“… If that lady came at you next, I was ready to drop her.”

They have fun picking on each other

“… I just posted another picture of you sleeping with your mouth open on my Instagram story.”
